May Spotlight: Claudia Lopes

Title: Senior Manager, EMEA Marketing

Location: London, United Kingdom

Been with Collaborative for: 3 Years

Why did you choose Collaborative?

I chose Collaborative for two reasons: the employee-centric culture and the opportunity to be the first marketing hire in Europe. During the recruitment process, it was very easy to understand that here at Collaborative, our values are more than just a few words written on a hidden page of our website. Everyone I met was representative of those values and they were very clear about how important the culture fit was for the role that I was applying for.

What does your day-to-day look like in your role?

Due to the nature of my role, I lead all the Marketing Programs for the EMEA region, and no two days are the same, which is something that I love. In my role, I work with different stakeholders, both internally and externally, and on a variety of different projects from client marketing projects to lead generation events.

What do you love about your job?

I love working with different people who bring different perspectives to the table. When we surround ourselves with excellent professionals, it is easier to achieve what we are aiming for and to be successful. I am lucky to work with a group of brilliant people that on the one hand challenge me to do my best every day, and on the other hand give me all the support I need to excel in my role.

What does it take to be successful in your role?

I think one of the most important things is loving what you do and having the drive to wake up in the morning and show up even when things don’t go according to plan.  It takes being confident, driven, and being able to put things in perspective. There is always something that can be done to improve things, and even if you can’t achieve what you wanted at 100%, you can work toward getting closer to it.

Additionally, when you work across different time zones with colleagues from different departments and backgrounds, you also need to be flexible and learn to look at different perspectives.

How does Collaborative help you grow as a person and in your career?

At Collaborative, we have several People Development programs that help employees reflect on their performance and have engagement discussions with their managers. I feel like having those in place is a huge help since it promotes development items that can then be reviewed later in the year. Those discussions are also very important to foster an open dialogue between managers and their direct reports and help managers understand what the career goals of their direct reports are.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

I would love to have the ability to tele-transport. Even though I love traveling and I am one of the few people I know that enjoys spending time at airports, I would absolutely love being able to think of a place and be transported there within seconds.

What’s your favorite TV show at the moment?

I am obsessed with watching Netflix's original series. If I had to choose, I would say my current favorite is Bridgerton, as the second season came out recently. However, I am also a huge fan of anything Marvel, so whenever I just want to watch something light, 50% of the time I’ll just re-watch one of my Marvel favorites.
