May Spotlight: Jewel Famaks
Title: Consultant
Location: London, United Kingdom
Been with Collaborative for: 1 year, 9 months
Why did you choose Collaborative?
First, I had a fantastic recruiting experience with Collaborative. All my interviewers exemplified that family feel that is unique to Collaborative, and that really strengthened my desire to work here. On top of that, the Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) I saw at Collaborative really promoted Diversity and Inclusion, which is a core value of mine, so I was excited to join a company that gave a platform to celebrate their employees’ individuality. I also saw the Collabie Spotlights, which I thought was a great way to show appreciation to employees, and it’s very exciting to now have my own!
What does your day-to-day look like in your role?
As a Workday consultant, I specialize mostly in the Recruiting and Learning module. This involves helping clients through the whole project lifecycle, from planning to deployment and post-production support. This means much of my day to day is split between speaking to clients and updating their Workday tenant in response. In a typical day, I can have between 1 - 4 hours of meetings. This can be project-based with clients (e.g., Weekly Workstream Meetings, Project Status Reports) or internal activities (e.g., Internal Team Meetings, Manager Meetings, Delivery Download). The rest of my day I typically spend in my clients’ tenant updating the set up in response to their requirements. We are constantly tweaking configuration as relationships with the clients grow and we understand their needs more.
What do you love about your job?
I genuinely love being able to guide my clients through the HR transformation. I can completely understand how daunting it can be for the client project team to see Workday for the first time. My first time playing around in Workday felt hard, too. It feels so good to work with them from the beginning to the end and to see them become more and more confident and comfortable with the system. Activities that would swamp the HR team are now done with the click of the button, and it’s so fun being the person to show them the functionality.
What does it take to be successful in your role?
I think a big part of being successful as a consultant is cultivating the ability to learn a lot and learn quickly. Consultants need to be able to provide answers and solve problems, but ultimately, we are all human and won’t know everything in the world. Every client is different and as the projects get bigger, the requirements will only get more unique. But if you can develop the ability to learn new things quickly, you will be able to successfully navigate any project. A consultant needs to constantly delve deeper into Workday and find new ways to alleviate the different pain points clients have.
How does Collaborative help you grow as a person and in your career?
Collaborative is my first corporate role, and it will forever have a tremendous place in my heart. Outside of the technical hard skills I have learnt about Workday Configuration, it has helped cultivate my soft skills and my workplace etiquette. I joined Collaborative during the pandemic, but soon after, the office became available, and I have had the luxury of working alongside excellent, experienced Collabies who have opened my eyes to the various careers within a consultancy firm which I had not heard of before joining Collaborative. I have built genuine connections with my fellow Collabies and I look forward to keeping those connections throughout my career, as well as taking the lessons I have learnt in my project experience to continue to grow in my role.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
I would 100% want to teleport! I love going on holiday and going out to dinner, but I absolutely hate travelling, whether it’s a plane, a car, or a train – I think commuting is just such an inefficient use of time! I just want to get dressed, then blink my eyes and end up wherever it is I need to be. That would be the dream!
What’s your favorite TV show at the moment?
I’ve been really slacking on the TV front, but the most recent show I really enjoyed is Physical 100 on Netflix. If you are big on fitness like me and like a good Korean reality show, give it a watch! The physiques of the people on that show are incredible and it is so entertaining.
